Living at SRU

Move-in Days:

New and current students will return to campus using the following schedule as a planning guide:

Thursday, prior to classes starting - First-Year and Transfer students
Friday, prior to classes starting - First-Year students
Sunday, prior to classes starting - all returning students

As you are preparing to deliver your students to their assigned residence hall, please label all items with your last name, hall, and room number so the WOW volunteers can take your belongings to the correct room and expedite the move-in process.

Once you arrive on campus, you will be directed to pull up to the curb, take your items out of your car and begin transporting them to your room; the person driving the car can then leave to park and the shuttle will bring them back to help finish unpacking and arranging the student's living space.

All students will sign-up for a move-in time over the summer; time slots will be in one hour increments; arrival can be at any time within the hour selected.

What is the Week of Welcome (WOW)?

"WoW" begins with "move-in days" on Thursday and Friday with Living Learning Community programming. Mandatory educational and social activities are scheduled for Saturday. Activities can include: "Moonlight Breakfast," Monte Carlo Night and "ROCK the ARC" which are held on Friday and Saturday. Other informal events are scheduled for Sunday.

What can families expect during the Weekend of Welcome (WOW)?

Our Move-in days philosophy is "Stop...Drop...Go!" Faculty/staff and student volunteers will assist you and your students with unloading the vehicle(s) and getting their items into the residence halls efficiently so everyone can experience a stress-free and enjoyable move-in transition.

Families and students can visit the SGA Bookstore, get parking passes, etc. during this time as well.

The Aebersold Student Recreation Center (The ARC) is available and FREE for family members after the move-in has occurred. Youth under 16 must be accompanied by a parent. The pool, climbing wall and all courts are available for use.

SRU's on-campus campground is available for reservations (18 sites available) through Campus Recreation. First come, first served! Contact Brian Mortimer for additional information 724.738.4413.

Health and Safety

Dear Parents and Families,

Slippery Rock University understands that the college experience extends far beyond academics. Students are faced with many challenges during their college experience including exposure to alcohol and drugs. Our dedicated team of educators and college health professionals are always looking for innovative ways to enhance our comprehensive alcohol and drug strategy.

MyStudentBody gives parents information about how they can help their student face challenges related to alcohol and drugs head on. We encourage you to visit MyStudentBody for practical suggestions and strategies to ease the transition to school. Video conversations, interactive tools, and school specific information will help you feel more confident while talking with your student. Student Involvement

THE EMERGING LEADERSHIP EXPERINECE (ELE)

Please encourage your student to apply to be a part of this interactive leadership program designed specifically for first-year students and first semester transfer students.  Students will have the opportunity to meet other students, work with a peer mentor who can answer questions about life on campus, learn valuable leadership skills that they will use for the remainder of their time at SRU and after graduation; and, most importantly, gain valuable connections to the SRU campus community which will help them successfully adjust to college life!  Students who graduate from the program are able to apply for a full tuition scholarship, renewable for four years (scholarship is reserved for a PA residents).

CORE AND CORQ MOBILE APP

It is critical for your student to make a campus connection within the first 6 weeks of the semester. The best way to explore the hundreds of ways to get involved at SRU is through CORE, the University's online student engagement platform. Students (and family members) can learn about student organizations, find volunteer experience, and discover leadership opportunities. They can also stay up to date with the latest happenings on campus through the events calendar and personal news feed. Start exploring CORE today at sru.edu/core.
