Four SRU students win Society of Illustrator awards

Four Slippery Rock University students had their artwork recognized in the 2023 Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators’ Student Scholarship Awards competition. The society’s jury selected 13 winners among 150 entries from seven schools. 

Devin Hendrickson, a junior art major from Industry, won the Dan Bridy Award for a digital illustration titled “My Grateful Rose,” produced in Basic Studio Graphic Design class taught by Doris Short, assistant professor of art.

Megan Evans, a sophomore art major from Zelienople, won the Ruddy Award for a piece titled “Watercolor Monochromatic Portrait,” produced in the Basic Studio Graphic Design class taught by Short. 

Alexandrea Frazier, a senior art major from Prospect, won the Ruddy Award for a printmaking project titled “Always and Forever,” produced in Intermediate Studio Printmaking taught by Theresa Antonellis, instructor of art. 

Riley Lennon, a sophomore art major from New Castle, earned an honorable mention for a digital illustration titled “Vision, Digital,” produced in 2D Design taught by Jon Shumway, a professor of art. 

The students received $500 for the Ruddy Awards, $400 for the Dan Bridy Awards and $250 for honorable mention.
