The Rocket captures two SPJ national awards

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Rocket, Slippery Rock University's independent, student-run newspaper, has captured two national "Mark of Excellence" awards from the Society of Professional Journalists.

The MOE awards honor the best collegiate students in the categories of print, radio, television and online collegiate journalism.

The Rocket was honored in the categories of sports photography and breaking news reporting, including:

Sports Photography: National finalist, "Women's LAX falls to No. 19 IUP" by Kendall Scott, a senior recreational therapy major from Bent Mountain, Virginia.

Breaking News Reporting: National finalist, "Faculty members begin strike after not reaching a tentative contract" by Daniel Difabio, a senior communication major from Washington.

Any student enrolled in an American or international college or university may submit their works for consideration.
