SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University's annual fundraising event, Giving Day, is March 26. For this one-day campaign, SRU alumni, students, employees and friends of the University are encouraged to give money to support SRU student scholarships, clubs, organizations, academic departments, athletic teams and more.

Hosted annually, beginning in 2017, SRU's Giving Day coincides with Founders' Day, the anniversary of the first day SRU opened its doors for classes on March 26, 1889.

The University has raised more than $2.1 million over the last seven years, including more than $700,000 from 1,398 donors last year. This year, organizers have set a goal for $800,000.

"This event is about showing support for all the amazing people and programming on our campus," said Teresa Glasgow, assistant director of annual giving and donor communication. "The funds make a tremendous impact on not just our campus, but the local community and beyond. We know that Rock pride is strong in places other than Slippery Rock and an event like this helps give people who are at a distance an opportunity to be a part of something big, even if they can't physically be here on campus."

Here's how people can participate:

GIVE ON GIVING DAY: Make online contributions on SRU's Giving Day webpage on March 26. When completing the online donation form, donors can designate their gift to any area on campus they would like to support.

GIVE IN PERSON: Visit the University Advancement team in Old Main, Room 100, to make in-person donation, now through March 26.

GIVE NOW: You can make an early gift on the Giving Day webpage. All gifts made before 11:59 p.m., March 26, will count toward SRU's Giving Day totals.

In addition to donating online, Giving Day participants can contribute by phone by calling 724.738.2004 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or by mail to: SRU Foundation, Inc., 104 Maltby Ave., Suite 100, Slippery Rock, PA, 16057.

BECOME AN ADVOCATE: Donors can create a profile on the Giving Day website and become an "Advocate," which allows participants to track the number of clicks, gifts and dollars they personally generated for the campaign. Advocates can also create challenges and matches, as well as Personal Pleas, which are short videos explaining why they give and encouraging others to join them in supporting the campaign.

SPREAD THE WORD: Participants are encouraged to use the hashtag #SRUGivingDay on social media and share stories about why they give and spread awareness about SRU programs, organizations and projects.

More information about Giving Day is available on the Giving Day webpage or by emailing questions to advancement@sru.edu. You can also listen to the latest episode of the "Hello, SRU" podcast where Glasgow talks more about the impact of Giving Day.
