Vocaldente

March 10, 2016

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Internationally recognized a cappella group, vocaldente, will bring its unique vocal styling to Slippery Rock University for a 7:30 p.m., March 24 performance at the University Union.

The German-based quintet are winners of numerous a cappella competitions, including first-place finishes at the 2008 International Contemporary A Cappella Competition in Taipei, Taiwan; the 2007 Tampereen Sävel in Tampere, Finland; and the 2008 Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival San Francisco, the world's largest a cappella competition. By virtue of its win at San Francisco, vocaldente became the first foreign-speaking group to capture that competition's top spot.

Unlike other a cappella groups, vocaldente - comprised of Benjamin Boresch, countertenor; Tobias Kiel, tenor; Jakob Buch, tenor; Alexander Nolte, baritone; and Tobias Pasternack, bass - doesn't rely on microphones, amplifiers or special effects, performing in the most pure acoustic sense.

The group's performances include selections from the Roaring '20s through today's latest pop hits.

Described by the international press as "sparkling with imagination" and "phenomenal," critics offer that the group brings "imaginative and passionate choreography" as part of its "witty and fresh" performances.

The quintet annually performs more than 100 concerts, which takes them throughout Europe and on extensive tours of the U.S. and Asia.

Tickets for vocaldente are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors (62 or older), $18 for youth (17 and younger) and $8 for SRU students. To purchase tickets, call 724.738.2018 or go online to https://www.sru.edu/life-at-sru/arts-and-culture/performing-arts-series.
