SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — While gathering in groups and traveling to a warm beach for some fun in the sun is a usual definition for spring break, the COVID-19 pandemic has made everyday life incredibly unusual. With that in mind, Slippery Rock University will be encouraging its students to kick back during what would typically be spring break, March 7-13. SRU's Student Affairs division is planning "Kick Back Week," with programming intended to help students relax and recharge for the second half of the spring semester.

As part of SRU's COVID-19 mitigation efforts, there is not a spring break this year because of a compressed schedule in order to finish the semester a week earlier, and to keep students who are on campus closer to the University instead of traveling and risk contracting the virus.

"Kick Back Week is designed to encourage students to take a break and practice self-care," said Lauren Moran, SRU director of student engagement and leadership. "This is a great time to break from a normal routine and engage in social, wellness and stress-free activities. March can be a challenging time for students and the programming we have planned is to help boost morale and allow for creative outlets and opportunities to destress."

There are more than 30 virtual and in-person events planned during the week, some of which include gift card drawings and giveaways. Events include a drive-in movie, a disc golf tournament, a resiliency boot camp, a paint night and fitness classes, such as yoga and spinning.

A listing of all events is available online and students can learn more and register for each event by searching for the events on the CORE website, which is SRU's online platform for student organizations. Students can also email student.affairs@sru.edu if they have any questions.
