Slippery Rock University's Aebersold Recreation Center was the site of the 15th Annual Steel City Slam Nov. 4-5. The eight-team wheelchair basketball tournament was hosted by the Pittsburgh Steelwheelers. The Steelwheelers, now in their 27th year, were founded with the objectives of developing a program of physical activity to benefit the physically disabled; improving leisure, recreational and sporting skills for the disabled; educating the public about acceptance and employment of the disabled; educating and encouraging disabled individuals to achieve maximum use of their abilities; expanding the concept of total rehabilitation of the disabled by providing incentives through involvement and competition in wheelchair sports; and gaining acknowledgement and respect from the community for wheelchair athletes.
