Career Education and Development

The Slippery Rock University Office of Career Education and Development supports students and alumni in their career development process. Career coaching is provided through career resources like the online platform HANDSHAKE, appointments, workshops, and recruiting events. From personalized career coaching to resume advice, our office assists SRU students as they build their future career plans.

Career Coaching Appointments

Career Coaching appointments are designed to explore more about you, majors at SRU, possible career paths, and define the next steps you can take.  Although there is both excitement and fear related to exploring the world of work, it's important to explore and take chances.  Our appointments can be in-person or virtual through Handshake.  Take that initial next step and schedule today by phone, in-person in 108 Bailey Library, or through HANDSHAKE.

HANDSHAKE: SRU’s career management system

Handshake is our system for job postings, events, appointment scheduling, and reporting,  including allowing users to easily access employment opportunities by department easy on-campus employment by departments through a. Slippery Rock Career Events for Spring 2024

Connecting students to future employment opportunities, especially local employers in Pennsylvania, is one important aspect of our office’s career development efforts. Various events throughout the semester facilitate connections and help students learn more about professional job applications.

Additional Career-Related Assistance

Our office has hosted or facilitated access to speaking events, networking venues and on-campus employer interviews, alongside both on and off campus career expos and job fairs. We also offer our resource on choosing a major at SRU. Other career-related topics we can assist with include Preparation of Employment Documents; Career Counseling and Certification Assistance for Educators; and graduate school applications. In the future, we are looking forward to providing more programming on various topics including USAJOBS.gov application sessions, LinkedIn, “Bills, Budgets & Benefits” and more.
