Social Work
Students pursuing a social work degree take courses focused on theory, policy and practical application that help them become change agents in careers in government, nonprofits, hospitals, and business industries.
Social workers often regard their careers as their passion, not simply a job. The Social Work program at SRU nurtures that passion and need to help others while also providing rigorous academic courses that enable students to translate their passion into best practices.
In broad terms, social work is a professional and academic discipline that improves the quality of life of individuals, groups and communities. Our graduates demonstrate competency in research, policy, social justice, diversity, community organizing and group work, and practice behaviors which allow them to effectively problem solve a variety of individual, group, family, community, government and organizational problems.
