International UNDERGRADUATE Admissions Requirements

The information that you'll want to consider and the tools that you need for the admission process can be found below whether you are a first time student, transferring, seeking a second bachelor's degree, exchange, or non-degree visiting.

Freshman International Applicant

International applicants who have not enrolled in any post secondary institution since graduating high school should apply as freshmen. Advanced standing may be considered for those students who have completed IB programs, GCE A-levels (advanced or advanced subsidiary) examinations.

Pay $30 USD application fee in the application portal. (non-refundable)
Submit official, English-translated copies of all secondary course work completed, including subjects listed and marks earned, secondary school certificates, diplomas and examinations results.
All non-native speakers of English must submit an official score report from TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
Applicants must score a minimum of 62 on the internet based test (iBT), a minimum of 500 on the written test or a minimum of a 173 on the computer based test. The TOEFL institution code for Slippery Rock University is 2658. IELTS (International English Language Testing Service) Applicants must receive an overall IELTS score at band 6.0 or above. ELS Schools official score report with a 112 result or higher. STEP Eiken 2A Grade. Applicants may also submit Duolingo English Test, which combines and English proficiency test with a brief video interview. Duolingo's technology and formate allows applicants to complete the test any time or place, as long as they have internet access. Only score of 95 and above will be accepted. SPECIAL NOTE: It is the applicant's responsibility to supply the Office for Global Engagement with the necessary documents to complete their application. The Office for Global Engagement reserves the right to withdraw an application if the required information is not received. Required documents should be emailed to international.admissions@sru.edu.

Transfer International Applicant

International applicants who have been enrolled in any postsecondary institution(s), regardless of the number of courses or credits attempted, should apply as transfers.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Preliminary Transfer Credit Evaluation:

To request a preliminary evaluation of transfer credits please complete the International Preliminary Transfer Evaluation Form. Should you have questions contact international.admissions@sru.edu. To provide a preliminary evaluation we will accept unofficial copies of academic documents but they must be in PDF format.*

*Please note to officially transfer credits upon enrollment original transcripts must be received.

SEVIS RECORD TRANSFER

If you are transferring from a post-secondary institution from within the United States to complete the transfer process we must receive your SEVIS record to create the new form I-20 and/or DS-2019.
We recommend that during the admission process you contact the International Student Adviser at your current institution to learn about their international student transfer policy.
SRU requires that international students transferring a SEVIS record complete the SRU SEVIS transfer-in form. For a copy of the form contact international.admissions@sru.edu.

A Post-Baccalaureate applicant has completed a minimum of a bachelor's degree and is interested in additional undergraduate study for a second bachelor's degree, a certificate, prepare for graduate study, or for personal enrichment.

Exchange and Non-Degree Visiting Applicant

Exchange applicants currently attend one of the international post-secondary institutions listed below (International Exchange Partners) and wish to study at Slippery Rock University for a short or long-term experience. Before exchange applicants apply for admission, an official nomination for participation in the exchange agreement must be received from your home institution in advance. For confirmation of the nomination please email us at international.admissions@sru.edu.

Pennsylvania Residency and Non US citizens

Slippery Rock University classifies each person who applies for admission as one of the following:

A resident of Pennsylvania
A non-resident; or
A foreign (international) student i.e., non-US citizen

How you are classified is important because it determines whether you pay non-resident tuition rates or in-state rates, which are lower. Being a resident may also qualify you to apply for financial aid.

DETERMINING RESIDENCY

When you apply for admission, the university uses information provided on the admissions application to make an initial determination about residency.

If the submitted information indicates you are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident however, you suspect that you may qualify for residency based on Pennsylvania high school graduation and domicile regulations; you may be prompted by the International Admissions Office to download and submit the Residency Classification Data Collection Form. The completed form should be submitted along with clear and convincing evidence to support the appeal for residency to either Financial Aid or Student Accounts. The appeal committee meets regularly to review the documentation.

NOTE: All documentation provided as part of the PA residency Appeals Process is confidential and subject to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Admissions and Mailing

Students that accept an offer for admission are issued an enrollment packet that may include important documents used to obtain the F-1 or J-1 non-immigrant student visas (i.e., Form I-20 or DS-2019).

Exchange students:

OGE will express mail the packet directly to the partner (sponsor) university. Please do not request shipment.

F-1 students in the United States:

If you are currently living in the United States we will send the packet USPS. If you wish to have the packet sent express mail you can use the service below.

To receive the documents in a timely manner we recommend using express shipping. Standard mail or airmail is unreliable (can take up to 5-25 days).

Request the enrollment packet through express mail is at your expense, requiring a credit card for payment (Visa, MasterCard or Discover).

To use this service you will be required to create an account:

Once logged in, select SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY ***OFFICE FOR GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT*** from the drop down menu under University and then click the SUBMIT button.
You must use your SRU Student ID (A0*******), mailing address (NO PO BOXES), email address, and phone number.
For payment, click Pay Now button which will redirect you to PayPal where you may choose to Pay as Guest with a credit card or bank card.
The shipment address must be that of your personal foreign address. Please pay attention to the information submitted, as any errors or incomplete address information will result in the delay in mailing your documents.
