Biology: Integrative Biology
Offered by: BiologyThe BS Biology: Integrative Biology concentration provides diverse training in many areas of biology including: plant biology, animal biology, cell/molecular biology and ecology. Students are then able to select upper level biology electives in their area of interest to develop a deeper understanding of their target area of biology. Hands-on laboratory and field biology training provide students with excellent opportunities to gain scientific knowledge and skills required for a variety of careers in the biological sciences.
Why Choose Integrative Biology?
This is a flexible degree path that provides a solid foundation in several areas of biology and then allows deeper training in the student’s selected area of interest. For example, students with a goal to work in conservation biology may take more field course work. In contrast a student interested in zoology may choose to take more upper division animal related coursework. Importantly, all students can complete an internship or independent study research project that will count as upper division credit toward their degree and will help them with their professional development.
What Will You Learn?
You will gain foundational knowledge in plant science, animal science, microbiology, and cell or molecular biology. Then you can tailor your upper level biology electives to develop a solid basis in your chosen area of biology. You will gain critical-thinking, problem-solving, oral, writing and laboratory-based practical skills, as well as training in professionalism.
Careers In Integrative Biology
Students who complete the concentration in integrative biology may pursue careers in science education, science outreach, zoology, botany, ecology, conservation biology, microbiology, fish and wildlife officers, government laboratories and environmental research. Students can also gain the pre-requisites required for entrance to a variety of graduate programs.
